Primary Grades Rowland Reading Program General Information
Our school is proud to have our primary grade students be a part of the Rowland Reading Super School Initiative since Fall, 2010. The goal of the Rowland Reading Program is to create schools that are nationally recognized for excellence in primary-grade reading instruction. Our school features a reading program called Superkids in the preschool through second-grade classrooms. Superkids is a comprehensive, phonics-based reading and language arts program that has produced exceptional results in schools around the country. Our teachers have undergone extensive training with reading experts in order to guarantee the academic achievement of our students. Our school's implementation of this cutting-edge reading program was recently the subject of an article in the SouthtownStar newspaper. Our principal, Mr. Johnson, is particularly enthused about the program, saying "St. Christopher School is excited to be chosen as a representative school for the Rowland Reading Initiative. The teachers and staff are confident that the Superkids program will be beneficial in increasing the reading skills and proficiencies for all of our students." Program Details The Superkids reading program is based on 5 key principals: 1. Superkids provides the right reading instruction at the right time. 2. Reading research has overwhelmingly validated the importance of Superkids’ systematic, phonics-based instruction for
primary grades. 3.Superkids Reading Program is a comprehensive reading & language arts curriculum with phonics at its core. 4. Superkids is an efficient, cost-effective reading program. 5. Superkids is easy to teach and understand.
